I am blessed to experience an incredible sunset almost every evening from my home on the hill overlooking Kailua Bay in Kona, Hawaii Island. The colors of the sky and ocean never cease to amaze me. I made this kapa bojagi as a gift to my beloved kumu kapa, kapa teacher. The color palette of the textiles was inspired by a gorgeous Kona sunset. In Korean culture, each stitch of a bojagi carries with it a wish for happiness. Bakjwi maedeup (traditional Korean bat shaped ornamental knots) which symbolize good luck adorn the bojagi. This bojagi carries with it wishes of happiness and goodness to my teacher.
