E Ola Ke Kahua O Ka Hana Kapa (The Foundation of Kapa Making Thrives)

November 14, 2024 - January 5, 2025
Kahilu Theatre, 67-1186 Lindsey Road, Kamuela, HI 96743

Three of my pieces, Upper Road to Waimea, You Are Loved and Belong, and Meditations, are on view in the galleries of Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, Hawai’i Island.

Upper Road to Waimea was selected for a Recognition Award and recommended for acquisition by the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to be added to their permanent collection.

Curated by my kumu kapa, Roen Hufford, 2023 National Heritage Fellowship recipient from the National Endowment for the Arts, this exhibition features kapa works by my kapa hui and other dedicated kapa makers that maintains and expands the traditional Hawaiian art and craft of ka hana kapa (kapa making).

Lisa Rodondi's solo exhibition, Still, reflects on a year of loss, heart-break and ultimately, healing, we experienced during the pandemic and social justice uprisings. Her work explores the concepts of fracture and mending, perseverance and hope, reconciliation and resilience, and states "I am still here." She deploys a variety of mixed media techniques using tactile materials.
