Joomchi
Joomchi is an ancient Korean technique used to transform hanji (Korean handmade paper) into a beautifully texturized form. In my studies with Aimee Lee, Steph Rue and Jiyoung Chung, I have explored both traditional and contemporary variations of joomchi, often fusing multiple layers of hanji together to create highly sculptural, cloth-like substrate. I am also drawn toward combining joomchi with other creative processes, such as painting, collage, stitching, kapa and textile art.
