I felted hanji (Korean paper) on to kapa (Hawaiian barkcloth). Both hanji and kapa, made from the paper mulberry tree, are known for their strength and beauty. I hand stitched clouds, traditional auspicious symbols of longevity in Korean culture on the kapa. Inspired by the sunflower, the national flower of Ukraine, I stamped a “sun flower” using òlena (turmeric, valued for its healing properties). This piece expresses my standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and my wish for their longevity.
